Baby Sunscreen

Speaking of kids products...do any of you use sunscreen for your kids during the summer months, when they play outside in water? If so, any suggestions for my 15 month old?

Yes - I have been using Banana Boat and Coppertone (?) - Not sure about the second brandname.

Dee, Very valid question. I use Aveeno baby (SPF 55) for my little one.

For babies, there are different products than adults and different SPFs as well.

If the baby is in the water, you will have to apply sunscreen more often than they are in sun playing outside. There are some waterproof Sunscreens too, still it's better to reapply after they come out of the pool.

Enjoy the Summer and be safe!!:))

Hi Dee! I use one with SPF 20 from Nivea called Sun Spray for kids. It's a blue colored liquid that helps to see where I've applied the lotion. It soaks in well without being greasy and is waterproof. I like the fact that it is a spray as it really is super easy to apply.

I always wondered what the number (15) stands for in SPF 15. When you go to buy the sunscreen, they have so different kinds that its very confusing sometimes. When I read you blog I google-ed about it. Here is a good article which I thought would be helpful. Because of copyright issues, I am only sending the link to it.

Hi Dee

When we took our babies to Hawaii we applied only ones with physcial sun "blockers" like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Its not easy to find these types in all stores. I got ours at a specialty baby shop here. Here is the babycenter article on why this type of sunblock may be better..

Hope this helps!

Thanks Archana
For the link. My daughter's skin erupts into light rashes on applying Sun Screen, so we were not very keen on it.
Shall try this out if I can
